what is a body wrap

What is a body wrap?

A body wrap spa treatment is used as a detox method. A full body wrap treatment includes the use of a variation of fruit or plant extracts, oils, lotions, creams, mud, seaweed or other application.

The mixture chosen is applied to the body to stimulate and moisturize the skin before the body is wrapped.

Body wrap results

Body wrap results will vary depending on the mixture applied and how long the body is wrapped. However, in general, the most popular reasons why people want a body wrap is to lose weight and reduce cellulite.

The spa body wrap treatment is primarily a detox body wrap, designed to assist the body with the detox process. Through the detox process, the individual usually perspires which leads to excess water loss. This, in and of itself will result in a bit of weight loss.

If cellulite is your concern, a detox body wrap might help reduce the appearance of it. If you are looking for something more targeted, cellulite wraps would be the place to start. Most will provide improvement, but note that it will be short lived. Because of this, cellulite wraps are great for same evening or weekend events.

Full body wraps are very relaxing for the body and mind. The mixture renders nurturing, healing emollients to the skin.

The minerals and/or oils are applied topically and absorbed through the skin. They then stimulate the nervous system for generating healthy cells while clearing the mind of stress.

What to expect from this spa service

A body wrap spa treatment can be offered as part of a spa package or a stand alone service. They will vary in how long they last and may be part of other treatments.

Confirm the details of the type of treatment you want prior to booking your appointment.

Note: If you experience claustrophobia, discuss available options before the service begins. If you have issues with your skin, inquire while booking your appointment if this is the best option for you.

Always refer to contraindications prior to booking any spa treatment, including body wraps.

Your therapist will escort you to the treatment room and tell you how to position yourself on the table. After they leave, you will disrobe for your body wrap and may or may not be laying face up on a wet table, comfortably covered.

The equipment used depends on the treatment specifics and the facilities available.

The massage therapist will come in and begin the treatment by applying the mixture. They will ensure that you are not completely exposed, however, the mixture will be applied all over your body, excluding the face, breasts and genital areas.

The application is quick and not to be considered a massage. Once the mixture has been applied, you will be wrapped up in plastic or foil to increase heat and lock in the moisture.

In most scenarios, insulating blankets will be brought up from under you, creating a cocoon effect. While you relax and the wrap begins to work, the massage therapist will provide a scalp massage.

After you have been wrapped for while, you will be unwrapped. Depending on the spa treatment itself, the mixture might be rinsed off (if on a wet table), wiped off, massaged in, or you will wash it off in an in-room shower.

Be prepared to roll with it as each spa has their own set up and procedure. If the application is not massaged in, then after washing or wiping it off, lotion will be applied.

This will serve to lock in the moisture and keep you feeling wonderfully smooth, soft and silky.

After your spa treatment and how often to have a wrap

After your body wrap, you will feel wonderful and so will your skin. You might be a little light headed. This is normal after any detox method.

Drink a lot of water. Wraps can be very effective at detoxifying your body and you will need to eliminate the toxins. Due to the loss of water, you will also need to hydrate.

Body wraps are not spa treatments to be received all the time. We suggest once a month.

However, many people want to use body wraps for weight loss. In this case we advise not more than once a week. Always pay attention to your body and skin for any negative changes.

If you do wraps too often, dehydration is a possibility.

Always confirm with your doctor or dermatologist that the spa treatment you want is safe for you to receive if you have any health concerns.

Every situation is different, so please tend to your own specific needs.
