Back of woman's thigh revealed while therapist provides cellulite treatment

What is a cellulite treatment?

A cellulite treatment (also known as anti-cellulite treatment or cellulite massage) is designed to break up cellulite. A simple cellulite definition would be that of fatty and toxin deposits under the skin.

This treatment is very focused on increasing circulation while eliminating toxins where cellulite is most commonly found: thighs, buttocks and abdomen. Note: If you bruise easily, advise your therapist as this treatment uses stronger movements with deeper pressure to break up the toxin deposits.

Cellulite treatment benefits

The spa cellulite treatment benefits begin with helping the body to get rid of toxins, thereby reducing the appearance of cellulite.

While contouring the body, this type of massage aides to firm the skin and areas that are being worked.

You might find this treatment beneficial if you have been retaining water or have been sluggish and need to feel energized. If you have received other mechanical or electrical body treatments, such as endermologie, you will discover this treatment to be a wonderful complement in getting rid of cellulite.

This spa treatment is not recommended if you are pregnant or epileptic. Ladies, if it is your first day of menstruation, ask your massage therapist to avoid your abdomen.

What to expect from a cellulite treatment

First, note that this is not a typical treatment or massage service. Generally, the anti-cellulite treatment will be available as a 50-minute service, but always confirm when booking your service.

As with all spa treatments and massage services, techniques, lotions, oils, etc. will vary from place to place. Here, we provide you with one example for basic understanding of what to expect from a cellulite treatment.

For this example, and in most cases, you will disrobe (in privacy) completely and lay face down on the massage table. You will be on top of a sheet of plastic with a towel covering you.

Preparing the skin and starting the treatment

Once the treatment begins, the massage therapist will lightly brush your body’s areas to be treated. These areas usually included the legs, buttocks and lower back. This exfoliation process prepares the skin for the gels, oils and mud yet to be applied.

After a quick application of an anti-cellulite gel, the therapist will start massaging one leg and buttock at a time. First, they will apply oil and then move into a sequence of deep kneading, stroking and wringing motions.

Some acupressure points will be manipulated. Then, the leg will be soothed with basic relaxing strokes. Once complete, the series of movements will then be repeated to the other side.

After both legs have been massaged, the mud is applied. This product is detoxifying, contouring and moisturizing so it will not dry the skin.

Treating the abdomen and front of thighs

Now, you will turn over and the massage therapist will repeat the same sequence to the fronts of each leg. After the application is complete, they will wrap your legs in the plastic.

Next, the abdomen will receive the exfoliating and oil.

Then comes the abdominal massage. Colon stroking is done to encourage elimination and proper digestion. After this massage, the mud will be applied and the plastic wrapped over you.

While you are relaxing, the mud is working to detox your body and moisturize your skin. Meanwhile, the massage therapist will perform some reflexology to your feet. This serves to aid in the cleansing of the liver, kidneys, intestinal track and lymphatic system.

After the reflexology, you will be unwrapped. The mud will be removed with hot, wet towels. The finishing touch will be an application of a moisturizing, nourishing and soothing lotion, such as a rose cream.

After your massage and how often to have cellulite treatments

After your cellulite treatment, you will feel thoroughly worked from the abdomen down. Although you will be relaxed, you will also feel rejuvenated.

You will have soft, silky skin and should see at least some textural improvement in the areas that were worked.

You might feel lightheaded or even have a bit of a headache. This is natural from the detoxifying of your system. Drink plenty of water during the first 24 hours to help your body eliminate toxins that were released during the treatment.

Avoid alcohol, sugar, white flour and fatty foods and eat more clean vegetables (not fried or buttered).

Start a
detox program
and plan on booking more treatments in order to see faster results. It is recommended (for maximum results) to do a series of cellulite treatments. Either one a day for a few days in a row or at least one a week, for at least three weeks in a row.

This treatment will best serve you if received in conjunction with proper diet, exercise and/or a detox program.
