What is destress muscle therapy?

Destress muscle therapy is named after its effect. This type of massage is a combination treatment that includes point work, stretching, aromatherapy and Swedish massage. It might also include some deeper work, depending on your needs.

Benefits

Destress muscle therapy benefits everyone, not just athletes. This type of massage truly assists in releasing stress from muscles as well as the mind, because it is so relaxing.

This is a wonderful therapeutic massage. The results make you feel like you were worked over yet relieved of stress. It is perfect for increasing your blood and lymph circulation, releasing tension and pain from your muscles and freeing your joints.

Although it does all of this for you, you won’t feel like you had to do any work to achieve these results!

What to expect

Here, we have provided the general description of what to expect from destress muscle therapy. Please note that all spa treatments can vary between therapists and entities, depending on the products used and equipment available.

Generally, this will be an 80-minute treatment. Your therapist will guide you to the room, tell you to disrobe (after they leave the room), and lay face down on the table, under the covers.

For this example, point work will be applied to the spine, backs and fronts of legs, and neck areas. The massage therapist will incorporate the point work into the treatment as they move throughout the body.

The massage will start with a quick application of a destress muscle gel to the legs and then the back. The gel is an aromatherapy product designed to soothe the muscles.

Once applied, the therapist will begin the actual massage on the back. Using different strokes and techniques, they will continue to the buttocks.

Once the back is complete, the therapist will move down to the legs and apply the oil quickly to both legs. Returning to start the massaging sequence at the top of the thigh and working their way down, they will finish with the feet and a couple of stretches.

After turning over, the therapist will continue with the front of the legs, much like the back and then move to the arms. They will add a couple of stretches to the arms before moving on to the neck and shoulders.

To round out your destress muscle therapy, they will finish with a stretch to the shoulders and possibly a brief scalp massage.

After your destress muscle therapy and how often to have one

After your destress muscle treatment you will feel great and very relaxed. Drink plenty of water to hydrate the muscles.

Try to maintain your flexibility by doing your stretches on a daily basis. Drink less caffeine and alcohol–and more water. Destress muscle therapy would be great to receive at least once a week, if possible.

A wonderful treatment that focuses on all of the stress points in the body, we think it’s hard to beat!
