What is ear candling?

Ear candling, a/k/a ear coning, is an ear wax treatment specifically designed to relieve the ear of unnecessary wax and debris. Ear candles, or ear cones, are used to clear a plugged ear of excess wax and other small debris.

Benefits

Ear candling benefits those with a plugged ear as well as individuals with sinus concerns. Maintaining a clean ear canal may help prevent infection and injury to the ear from occurring.

Often, people who believe they’re losing their hearing may discover it’s excess ear wax causing the problem. Ear candling will clear the ear wax buildup, allowing for better hearing.

This gentle, natural ear wax removal is relaxing and soothing.

What to expect and is ear candling safe?

Ear candling is a relaxing, non-invasive, safe treatment. You will not disrobe for ear coning. The set up and execution is simple.

You will lie comfortably on one side or the other first, providing clear access to your ear for the practitioner.

An ear candle being lit

They will begin by lighting the large end of the hollow candle on fire to start the vacuum process. Once established, they will insert the small, unlit end of the ear cone into your ear while holding the candle for stability.

You will hear a windy sound which is the vacuum working. Very gently, and with a soothing sensation, the ear candle will lift the debris and excess wax out of the ear canal.

The therapist will periodically deposit pieces into a bowl or container on the side, and then reinsert the cone into your ear. They will repeat this process until the candle is expired.

You will then turn onto your other side to expose the other ear. This process will be repeated for the other ear, completing the ear candle treatment.

After your treatment and how often to experience ear candling

After your ear candle treatment, you will probably hear better. If you have sinus issues, you might feel the pressure has been relieved. Additionally, you will be relaxed and in a peaceful state.

The therapist will review the contents removed from your ears. After reviewing, they will discuss any possible concerns they might have based.

Discuss with your practitioner how frequently you should have this treatment. Everyone is different and the amount of ear wax buildup people experience varies per individual.

Frequency of visits will be based on any specific issues or concerns you may be working with. Generally speaking, this is not a treatment the average person will have often.
